Brian
F. Smith and Associates is as much a historic research
firm as an archaeological firm. This is in part based on the
interdisciplinary nature of archaeology which draws upon theoretical
concepts and methodological approaches from history, social sciences, and physical sciences
for the ultimate goal of reconstructing past lifeways.
BFSA
has historians to conduct archival research, historic
documentation, evaluations, and visual impact analyses for structures that may be impacted by a planned or permitted action, such as:
- when
a lead agency wants to know more about a structure prior
to making a decision about whether mitigation of impacts
will be required, or
- when
a structure that is listed on the
Register of Historic Places is to be impacted, specific
documentation is required before the structure can be demolished
or relocated.
The
historic component of cultural resources management generally
refers to the built environment, or standing structures and
their significance, to local, state, and national history
and heritage. Historic surveys can range from the documentation
of a single property to the study of an entire group of structures
or district.
Whatever
your project requires, we are confident that we can provide
you with the necessary consulting.
